The Portage Jiu Jitsu Club has begun a new season! Adult students (13+) meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Southport Recreation Centre from 6:45 – 8:45pm. “Portage Jiu Jitsu has been offering a practical and effective system of self-defense for over 25 years”, says lead instructor Leith Saunders. “But people come out for the fitness and fun too.” The classes are taught by a dedicated group of Black Belts. “We volunteer our time to teach because we have that much passion for this art. This also helps keep costs down; our fees have not increased for over five years”, says Saunders. “We also enjoy meeting new people and watching them develop and progress in the art”. The Portage Jiu Jitsu Club also offers a Martial Arts class for children ages 8-12 on Tuesday nights from 6:45-8:00. This class teaches children basic Martial Arts skills and some defenses while developing their co-ordination and discipline. People can join at any time and if they are not sure Jiu Jitsu is for them, they are welcome to participate in a free introductory lesson.
