Portage Pitbulls Atoms stampede over St. Vital Mustangs in playoff action
Minutes into the first quarter, the Pitbulls drew first blood by scoring a touchdown, which was received wildly by Pitbull fans! The Mustangs had to play catch up but had trouble getting past the Pitbulls defense. Kudos to defensive coach Perrin Banfield whose defensive lineup has treated each team they encounter with the same determined consistency of a 10 foot granite wall. Today was no exception as the defensive line continued to push the Mustangs back thru each quarter of play. Making outstanding defensive tackles were Brock Miller, Darien Schaan and Alexis Kennedy
The offensive line led by quarterback Andrew Stasiuk marched the ball past an oustanding Mustangs defense with the help of Kaiden Banfield and Colby Irwin who also ran in several touchdowns.
At the end of 4th quarter action, the St. Vital Mustangs fell to the victorious Portage Pitbulls in this quarter final showdown 14 - 39. In the after game team huttle several players sprayed Head Coach Miles Irwin with silly string. He later told the team: "I believe you guys are the best team in the (MB Minor Football) League, and we only have one game left!"
At the writing of this story, it is unknown who the Pitbulls Atoms will play, but there is a good chance they will play the Crescentwood Comets. At the end of the day, whoever the Pitbulls play, that team will have to reckon with the "best team in the league!"
Congratulations to all the players and to Coaches Irwin, Banfield, Stasiuk, and Trainers Ritchie and Miller for their oustanding effort to date!
