Female Caps in St. Paul Minnesota
The Caps lost their Semi final to MFMHL rival Westman Wildcats in a shootout before dropping a 5 to 0 decision to POE of Kelowna BC. The Caps and the Wildcats battled through 3 periods and a 5 minute OT and solved nothing. Madison Dreger scored the Caps lone goal in the 3rd period as the Caps battled back from a 1 to 0 deficit and forced OT.
The Caps controlled a large part of the game outshooting Westman 16 to 8 over the final 2 periods but were unable to get more than one goal. Robin Thiessen was solid between the pipes for the Caps allowing just 1 goal on 17 shots. In the Shootout the first 2 shooters for Westman scored and the Caps could not solve the Wildcats goaltender leading to a 2 to 1 shootout loss.
The Caps then went back on the ice to face the POE team less than 2 hours later and came out flat giving up 3 in the 1st period before settling in and playing a solid 2nd and 3rd period against one of the Top Sports Schools in Canada.
The Caps Top 4 finish was their highest ever in this elite U19 16 team event with 3 of the 4 teams coming from Manitoba and 2 from the MFMHL in the Top 4.
GREAT RESULT FOR THE CAPS PROGRAM!
