Female Caps Uodate
The Central Plains Capitals have selected Ferdi Nelissen to return as Head Coach for his 5th season behind the bench. Nelissen is excited to return to the position he has held since the forming of the Regional Female Program.
Nelissen is pleased to announce the return of Richard Oswald for a second season as an Assistant Coach. Nelissen states Richard brings a wealth of talents to the position with his abilities to provide challenging practices, progress individual player skills and insight into the game strategy and team progression.
Added to the staff for the first year will be Rob McVannel who has numerous years behind the bench as a coach in the MacGregor Minor Hockey system. McVannel brings a strong knowledge of the game to the coaching staff and has worked with Nelissen in previous Bantam Challenge and for several years with Oswald in Portage coaching the Bantam Female Program.
Also joining the team will be former Capital Shaye Nelissen who played NCAA in the USA however could not return due to injury concerns, Nelissen is the Head Coaches daughter played defense for the Capitals and holds team career records for most points, most assists and most points and goals for a defense both career and single season. She will be expected to provide a mentorship role for the young Caps along with working with the defense.
The Coaching staff is excited about the upcoming season after seeing the players perform at a Central Plains Conditioning Camp over the past 3 days. The Caps had a solid season in 2011-12 where they finished 21-12-8 and hope to build on that success with a strong group of young returning players.
They will start their season with trip to for a 3 game exhibition series in Melville Sask from Sept. 22-23 before hosting a 9-12 team preseason tournament at the PCU Centre in Portage from Sept. 28-30 prior to the start of their Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League and tournament schedule which see them play 45 plus games prior to heading into league playoffs.
