Swamp Gas coming to Glesby Centre

Swamp Gas is invading Portage la Prairie this week - the band, that is. They'll be playing the William Glesby Centre this Saturday night.
"It should be up beat with a variety of sounds and vocals," said Lorne Lagimodiere, who plays mandolin, guitar, and harmonica in the Neepawa band. According to Lagimondiere, the band's musical style crosses oceans and eras. Swamp Gas has a selection of songs from the East coast of Canada, inspired by Irish and Scottish music, but they also play folk music from the last few decades.
Swamp Gas has been together eight years and still enjoy playing music together. "We seem to be accepted by the audience, so that makes you want to come back," Lagimodiere said laughing about their years together.
Another reason the band has managed to stay together and still enjoy performing after eight years is because for them, it isn't about money. Two members are retired and the remaining two work in education. For Swamp Gas, it's all about having a good time and sharing music they enjoy. Lagimodiere said they stopped trying to be perfect years ago. "The harder you try, the harder it gets," he said.
The band has a few performances lined up for the next few months. On Feb. 4, they'll be on stage at the Scottish pavilion for Brandon's Winterfest, Feb. 6 they're heading to Killarney for a performance, and on March 19 they perform at Lobsterfest in Hartney. After that the band will take a break for the Spring.
Swamp Gas has played a few private functions in Portage, but this will be their first public gig in the city. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $26.
