Health care professionals still in need

Central Regional Health Authority is reporting there is still a great need to attract more health care professionals to the region.

Dr. Denis Fortier, who is vice-president of medical services for Regional Health Authority — Central Manitoba Inc., said some emergency rooms that were closed previously haven't been able to re-open, citing St. Claude an as example.

He said there are also challenges keeping family doctors in the Central region.

"It is safe to say we need more doctors in Central ...," he said on Friday. "We probably need about in total eight or nine doctors."

There is an added challenge to attract health care professionals to rural Manitoba, noted Fortier.

Hugh McFadyen, leader of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative party, said on July 28, there is a nursing shortage in Neepawa in particular and high vacancy rates for a number of rural communities in Manitoba.

My family has a long history of people in the medical field.
The younger ones,(for the last 20 years), have been heading down south, where 'everything" in the medical field, is much more attractive. Better wake up Canada, you've lost and are losing many great people!
Care for our home land with our home people first!
