Women's contributions alive and well in Portage

Posted By Angela Brown, The Daily Graphic

Staff photo by Angela Brown...Angela Roulette, of the Women Of Mother Earth Network, is pictured outside Portage la Prairie s Court of Queen s Bench. She notes women need to take an active role in order to help encourage justice and equality in society.

As we look towards the future with 2010 not far on the horizon, it is a good opportunity to also take the time to look back on the great strides women have made in society, at all levels, over the years.

Here in Portage la Prairie, many women have made contributions to society in their work and volunteer efforts, advocating for equality and justice, not just for women but for everyone. Last month was Women's History Month in Canada, also a time to acknowledge the accomplishments of women, in the community as a whole.

Angela Roulette works as a women's mentor for the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) program at the Portage Friendship Centre, while also being active in the community as the spokeswoman for Women of Mother Earth Network (WOMEN), a group whose work has helped address the problem of homelessness and stamp out poverty.
