Portage RCMP weekly report

The following is a summary of police activity in the Central Plains area - including Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities. The reporting dates are between May 7-13, during this time period police responded to 327 calls for service.

May 7 - 43 calls for service

Vandals strike

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to an address on 3rd Street NE in where some motorhomes had been vandalized. The motorhomes had extensive damage to them. A total of 6 vehicles were involved in this incident. Various items were taken from these vehicles and most had windows smashed and other damage to the interiors. If anyone has any information that will help further the investigation, please call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

May 8 - 43 calls for service

Speeder nabbed

Amaranth RCMP were patrolling Highway 50 when the officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped for travelling 138 kph in a 100 kph zone. The male driver from Dauphin was issued a ticket in the amount of $548.

May 9 - 45 calls for service

Morden pursuit ends in Central Plains

Morden RCMP were engaged in a pursuit of a vehicle that originated in the RM of Stanley. The vehicle in pursuit was making its way towards the Treherne RCMP Detachment area. Members from Morden, Manitou, Treherne and Portage RCMP assisted in this pursuit. The Treherne member was able to locate the vehicle but the driver fled on foot into a treed area. RCMP members were able to contain the area until the Police Dog unit arrived. After several hours the 26-year-old male from the RM of Stanley was arrested. The driver faces five Criminal Code charges as well as 6 Highway Traffic Act offences. The driver was held in custody and appeared in court at the next appearance date.

May 10 - 37 calls for service

Sheds broken into

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a couple of calls of sheds being broken into in the 17th and 18th Street NW area over night. In one of the occurrences, an orange 2001 KTM dirt bike was stolen and a snow blower moved into the center of the back yard. The locks and doors had been pried open on these sheds. If anyone has any information that will help further the investigation, please call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Speeder nabbed

Treherne RCMP were patrolling Highway #2 near Treherne and observed a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was pulled over for speeding. The driver from Winnipeg was traveling 149 kph in a 100 kph zone and issued a ticket in the amount of $692.

May 11 - 63 calls for service

Speeder nabbed

Treherne RCMP were patrolling Highway #2 near Holland and observed a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was pulled over for speeding. The driver from Carman was traveling 137 kph in a 100 kph zone and issued a ticket in the amount of $535.

May 12 - 63 calls for service

Speeders nabbed

Treherne RCMP were patrolling Highway #2 near Holland and observed a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was pulled over for speeding. The driver from Altona was traveling 136 kph in a 100 kph zone and issued a ticket in the amount of $535.

Treherne RCMP were patrolling Highway #2 near Cypress River and observed a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was pulled over for speeding. The driver from Winnipeg was traveling 140 kph in a 100 kph zone and issued a ticket in the amount of $573.

Driving under the influence

Treherne RCMP conducted a traffic stop of a Dodge pick up truck in Cypress River. The RCMP officer could detect an odour of alcohol emanating from the driver. The officer used the road side screening device on the driver. The road side screening device indicated a Warning and the drivers licence was suspended for 72 hours.

Bike theft

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a residence on the 500 block Royal Road North of a Break and Enter. A shed in the back yard had the lock pried off the door. Three bicycles were stolen. A men’s blue bicycle with oversized tires, a red girl’s mountain bike and a black, white and red racing bike with skinny tires. If anyone has seen these bicycles or have any information regarding this incident, you are asked to please call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Police respond to B&E

Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a Break and Enter on a residence on Oak Bay. RCMP members observed a broken basement window of this residence. Police entered and located a male and a female in their twenty’s in the residence. Both individuals were arrested and held for court.

May 13 - 33 calls for service

Police respond to B&E

RCMP were called to a residence on 9th Street NW in the early hours to a Break and Enter of a garage. The door to the garage had been damaged in gaining entrance into the garage. There were various items scattered on the yard and the street. It is unknown how many suspects were involved in this incident. If anyone has any information that will help further the investigation, please call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Speeder nabbed

Portage la Prairie RCMP were patrolling Highway #1 Bypass and observed a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was pulled over for speeding. The driver from Toronto, Ont. was traveling 136 kph in a 100 kph zone and issued a ticket in the amount of $521.
