Portage Collegiate Institute Trojans midfielder Logan Calder was named the Manitoba High School Field Lacrosse League’s week two Division 2 Player of the Week for his outstanding play with his club.
“Calder started the season hot and his production has been consistent for us this year,” says Trojans head coach, Al Patterson. “Friday he scored the first goal against Vincent Massey which was one we needed to get so we could build momentum off it and get the first win of the day.”
The 17-year-old has 4 goals and 2 assists so far this season and sits sixth in league scoring behind his teammates Donovan Brown and Garon Blanchard. Calder’s been a force on defence as well, picking up loose balls and rebounds, and getting the offence started from the back end with strong breakout passes.
“He’s played an instrumental role in leadership this year,” adds Patterson. “He’s not the loudspeaker type guy but he leads with the play he leaves on the field. His determination and dedication to practice and playing hard are second to none.”
The Trojans still have another week off in the MHSFLL as they’re back on the field May 25, when PCI takes on R.D. Parker in Winnipeg.
