One game left before Zones.
Portage Collegiate’s baseball and fastpitch teams were in action Monday night in Portage la Prairie and both teams came away victorious as the Saints decimated Mennonite Collegiate 15-0 in three innings and the Trojans beat WC Miller in both games of a doubleheader with Zone championship tournaments looming in the near future.
Trojans pitcher Joey Moffatt pitched all five innings in the first Zone 4 Baseball League match versus the Aces and came away with a 5-1 win. He surrendered one run on five hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Tyler Van Deynze led PCI at the plate with two hits in three at-bats. The Trojans looked even better in their second game, winnings 11-2 in five innings. Chance Dickenson earned the win for PCI, as he lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs and striking out four.
The PCI Saints only needed three innings to get the job done versus MCI Monday night in Zone 4 Fastpitch League action. Shayne Nichols was lights out for PCI, again, as she gave up one hit while allowing zero runs at the rubber. Nichols also led the way offensively as she hammered a home run in the first to cap a seven-run inning.
The Saints wrap up their Zone 4 Fastpitch regular season Wednesday night on the road when they face Morden while the boys finish things up Thursday night with a doubleheader in Morden as well. The Zone 4 Baseball Tournament is in Portage Tuesday, May 22, while the girls hunt for the Zone 4 Fastpitch banner Wednesday, May 23 at Rotary Republic Park in Portage.
