For the third straight year, the public showed their support for the animals of Portage in February as Best West Pet Foods’ Hearts for PAWS raised $224 for the Portage Animal Welfare Society.
“A lot of these donations were more than just the $1 donation we were asking for at the store which was exciting,” says store manager, Sonya Brasseur. “This will help PAWS with spay and neuter fees, vet bills, food, and toys, whatever they need to help provide good care for the animals in their care.”
Director of volunteers Catherine Aller-Brook is thrilled at the constant support the organization receives from Brasseur, and the generous people of Portage and the surrounding areas. PAWS has several animals in their care now and are always looking for fosters for both cats and dogs.
“We really need some more volunteers, really dedicated volunteers, to help with cleaning and caring for some of the animals,” says Aller-Brook. “We’re always looking for more fosters so we can get animals out of the pound because the city will euthanize animals if we don’t get them out of there quickly.”
PAWS welcomes anyone interested in volunteering or fostering with the organization to inquire through their website or through Facebook. PAWS will have a booth at the upcoming Home and Business Expo as well.
