Portage Community Centre Incorporated (PCCI), overseers of the William Glesby Centre, and the Portage and District Arts Centre (PDAC) announced today that after months of deliberation, the two groups will be pursuing amalgamation.
“We will be able to work together to improve and expand programming for the arts in our community”, says Jeff Dubois, board chair of the Glesby Centre. "Both boards and staff agree that the amalgamation makes sense."
The goal of the amalgamation is to focus each organization's existing resources in order to maximize facility use and create a destination centre that all residents will want to visit. PDAC and the Glesby Centre plan to combine their efforts and resources to create one centre of excellence for both the performing and visual arts in Portage la Prairie and surrounding districts.
“This is a logical fit”, adds Margaret Bernhardt-Lowdon, executive director of PDAC. “Both organizations understand the importance of the arts to the well-being of our community and citizens, and to our economy”
The building that houses both centres is owned by the city, who will assume responsibility for its maintenance from PCCI following the amalgamation.
