Terriers double up Natives
It's going to come right down to the wire for second place in the MJHL league standings.
Jeremey Leipsic led all scorers with a goal and two assists as the Portage Terriers downed the Natives 6-3 on the road in Neepawa Friday night and sit in 3rd place, one point behind Virden with a game in hand.
Troy Williams and Turner Ripplinger struck in the opening frame to stake the visitors to a 2-1 lead at intermission. Leipsic found the back of the net in the opening minutes of the second with his 25th of the year before Ryan Sokoloski added to the Dogs' lead.
The Natives struck with 16 seconds left in the period to pull within two but Ty Enns converted on a Nick Doyle feed 3:23 into the third to end any comeback hopes.
Sokoloski added his second of the night, an empty-netter, to round out the scoring.
Brock Aiken made 28 saves in the victory while Brendan Benoit turned aside 20 Terrier shots in the losing effort.
The Dogs and Natives are back in action Monday for a Louis Riel Day matinee rematch at Stride Place. Puck drop set for 4:30 p.m.
