It’s a new start for a team that struggled through the season.

The Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Trojans are off to the postseason thanks to a 6-3 win over Garden Valley in Sunday afternoon’s Survivor Series match in Winkler.

“There’s still some work to do for sure,” says Trojans head coach, Brendan Schaan. “Anything can happen in the playoffs and we just need to show up and play our absolute best. Sunday was one of our best games in the sense of growth in the players. Grayson Pashe played great in net too, he always finds a way to get in front of pucks and it’ll be his ball from here on out.”

Portage will now face the first place WC Miller Aces in a best-of-three quarterfinal series. The Aces won every match against PCI this season with 9-2 and 12-0 victories earlier in the season. The Trojans are going to need to bring their best performance if they plan to move on.

Game 1 of the best-of-three series goes Monday evening in Altona while Game 2 hits Portage Thursday night.
