The Portage Terriers Atom #3 team's hard work paid off with the championship in their first tournament of the hockey season over the weekend in St. Eustache.
“I couldn't be prouder of all of our kids,” says Dogs head coach, Adam O’Ray. “They all worked so hard for this trophy. They played as a real team and worked together all weekend. Strong offensive and defensive play and out of this world goaltending from Zachary Caners.”
The mini-dogs led their division heading into the championship game. They opened the tournament with a loss to Winnipeg South but bounced back to win in their second, defeating the Phoenix Winter Hawks to sit 1-1 through two. A very early morning game resulted in another Portage win against the host's St. Eustache White and the Terriers wrapped up the round robin with an overtime win to finish 3-1.
Their record moved them into the final where they once again faced Winnipeg South. This time the result was much different with the Terriers coming away victorious and winning the tournament trophy in the process.
