Trojans capture WWAC Tier 2 championship; Saints bring home bronze

A come from behind victory for the title.
The Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Trojans junior varsity volleyball team won an exciting five-set battle over the John Taylor Pipers to capture the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference (WWAC) tier 2 banner Wednesday.
The Trojans won the opening set 25-13 but quickly fell behind losing 25-20 and 25-18 in the next two. The boys battled hard in the fourth and forced a fifth with a 25-23 victory. The Trojans and Pipers exchanged points until the score was 12-all, then the Trojans pulled away to seal the win at 15-12. The jv Trojans went 8-1 through the regular season and finished first place in the WWAC Tier 1 Division.
The jv Trojans will not get a shot at provincials because they were in Tier 2.
JV girls take bronze
A tough finish to a spectacular season.
The PCI Saints junior varsity volleyball team took the WWAC Tier 1 third place title this week when they beat out St. Mary’s in straight sets in Winnipeg Wednesday.
The Saints went 11-1 through the regular season tying Sturgeon Heights at the top of the standings.
