A local company was recognized last week for their efforts to grow skilled trades in the community.

Enns Brothers Portage was named the 2017 Rural Employer of the Year by Apprenticeship Manitoba at its 11th annual Apprenticeship Awards of Distinction gala last week at Winnipeg’s RBC Convention Centre.

Enns Brothers was nominated by Blair Hordeski, Portage Collegiate Institute’s (PCI) career development coordinator, because of its commitment to developing young people and providing them with an opportunity to learn about and work in a potential future career. 67 per cent of the facility’s current technicians came up through the program at PCI.
