Armed suspect sought in overnight carjacking

Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a carjacking last night on Spruce Bay in Portage la Prairie.

According to police, at approximately 10:10 p.m., a male approached an idling car that was parked and waiting for a resident before entering the vehicle, produced a firearm, and struck the driver of the van with said firearm.

The 47-year-old male victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous male with a slim build, standing approximately 5-foot-10. He was wearing a mask or bandana around his face, a black jacket with fur around the hood and blue jeans. The van is a red Dodge Caravan with license plate HUT 784.

Police are advising the public to ensure their vehicle doors are locked when they are stopped.
