RCMP seek counterfeit bill user

The Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a female suspect using counterfeit currency.

According to police, RCMP were made aware of a suspect using a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase items at Shoppers Drug Mart in Portage on Oct. 5.

“We want to put an end to this current upswing in the use of counterfeit bills,” says Staff Sergeant Rob Vachon of Portage la Prairie RCMP. “We need the help of the community in order to do that.

The individual is described as an Indigenous female with a slim build, standing 5-feet tall, with long dark hair and large eye brows. She was wearing large hoop earrings, blue jeans and a black long sleeved sweater at the time of the incident.

Investigators believe that the suspect is from Portage or the surrounding area, and that she can be identified by members of the community. People who can identify this suspect, or who is producing the counterfeit bills being used around the city are urged to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445, or your local police detachment.
