UPDATE: A very intense low pressure system will track through northern Manitoba Wednesday.
According to Environment Canada, the system will bring very strong westerly winds with gusts of 90 km/h to southern Manitoba beginning this evening. In addition, certain wind prone areas in the lee of the Duck and Riding Mountains are likely to get gusts of 110 km/h or stronger.
The extreme winds will ease Wednesday morning in western Manitoba and Wednesday afternoon in the Red River Valley as the low moves towards Ontario.
Strong, gusty winds reaching up to 90 km/h are expected for southern Manitoba early Wednesday morning.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Monday afternoon cautioning of an intense low pressure system that is forecast to track through the eastern Prairies over the next few days. Winds gusts of up to 90 km/h or higher are expected to develop over southwest Manitoba Wednesday morning.
According to Environment Canada, strong gusts will expand east to affect the rest of south central Manitoba with the passage of the cold front. Strong winds will slowly weaken late Wednesday. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur and high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
Uncertainty still exists in the exact track and intensity of the low pressure system. Wind warnings may be issued for parts of southwestern Manitoba. To report severe weather, send an email to email@example.com or tweet reports using #MBStorm.
