It's time to pull out the rake and spend some time outside.

The trees are almost bare and the City of Portage la Prairie's free curb-side yard wast collection is underway.

The program started in September and will run for another four collection cycles until November 10. Yard waste is to be placed at the curb on regular collection days no later than 7 a.m. There's no limit to the number of bags that can be placed out for collection, but the bags must be limited to 18 kg or 40 lbs each. Yard waste must be placed in clear refuse bags or compostable brown paper bags which can be picked up at various retail outlets. Coloured bags will not be collected.

Yard waste is listed as leaves, grass, and garden waste excluding any tree trimmings. Tree trimmings must always be bundled in four foot sections and have a waste collection tag affixed, or be taken directly to the Tree Disposal Site.
