An early morning traffic jam caused confusion just outside of Portage la Prairie this weekend.
Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of barricades placed in the eastbound lane of Highway 1 at Highway 13 - indicating the highway was closed – at approximately 4:25 a.m. Saturday morning and a near half-kilometre traffic jam was caused as a result.
“Someone’s idea of a practical joke had the potential to cause a serious or even fatal collision”, said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP. “The consequences can be quite severe to those who commit these acts as they can be held accountable for their actions.”
According to police, officers arrived on scene and determined numerous barricades and pylons had been moved from the construction zone in the westbound lane and placed in the eastbound lane.
The RCMP would like to remind motorist that you need to always be aware of your surroundings and be cautious of the driving conditions as they can change suddenly without warning.
