Southport Sapphires Gymnastics Club opens season

The Southport Sapphires Gymnastics Club competed in their first event of the season in Morden on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8.
On Feb. 7, four Southport gymnasts participated in the intermediate level:
Czarina Castellano was in the age 10 category. Czarina has worked very hard this year and has made great improvement so far.
Her marks were as follows: vault 5.60 for 11th place, uneven bars 6.90 for 8th place, beam 7.95 for 10th place and floor 7.50 for 11th place. Her total all-around score was 27.95 for an 11th place finish.
Kate Moggey competed in the age 11-12 category. This was her first time competing and finished very well being able to stand on the podium in second place.
Her marks: vault 7.85 for 3rd place, uneven bars 8.85 for 1st place, beam 8.40 for 3rd place and floor 8.40 for 4th place. Her total all-around score was 33.50 for a silver medal finish.
Lauren Blight and Shay Lyall participated in the age 13 and over category. This was the first time ever competing for Shay and she did very well while having to deal with the nerves of being in front of a crowd and judges.
Shay’s marks: vault 5.30 for 12th place, uneven bars 7.30 for 7th place, beam 7.75 for 11th place and floor 7.00 for 9th place. Her total all-around score was 27.35 for a 10th place finish.
Lauren’s marks: vault 6.95 for 7th place, uneven bars 6.80 for 10th place, beam 8.50 for 4th place and floor 8.10 for 5th place. Her total all-around score was 30.35 for a 6th place finish.
On Feb. 8 we had one gymnast participate in the advanced level.
Kyndree Majoros was in the age 13 and over category. Kyndree had a strong day and learned to keep her nerves in check while on the floor.
Kyndree's marks: vault 7.85 for 4th place, uneven bars 8.85 for 2nd place, beam 8.575 for 2nd place and floor 8.55 for 2nd place. Her total all-around score was 33.825 for a silver medal finish.
The coaches are very happy with the results of our first competition and with hard work they are only going to get stronger.
Up next for the Southport Sapphires Gymnastics Club is their home competition on Feb. 21.
