2014's best red carpet looks

Colour was the new black in 2014.

Sure, we saw beautiful black gowns make an appearance from designers like Armani Prive to Zac Posen, but we saw more celebs than ever before sashay down the red carpet in a kaleidoscope of hues ranging from pale pinks and nudes to deep violets, indigos, reds and canary yellows.

“It was definitely a colorful year and quite honestly -- so refreshing,” says Vancouver-based stylist and beauty expert Nadia Albano. “We saw a lot of unique necklines with asymmetrical, sheer and cutout details, along with textured and silk screen fabrics.” Toronto-based stylist Talia Brown agrees. “These looks work on the red carpet because they are elegant and fresh with a girly twist,” says Brown. Most looks had what Brown describes as that “soft on the eyes” feel.

What can we expect for 2015?
“I am sure there will be colour on the red carpet this year but there will always be classic beauties in the perfect little black dress,” says Brown.
"I feel that Hollywood is going in a more youthful, fresh and upbeat direction with color and design, says Albano. “I think we'll be seeing understated, yet extravagant looks.”

While we wait to see how fashion’s best and brightest decide, here are some of our top red carpet looks of 2014.
