Halifax police arrest man, recover gun in downtown core
Police in Halifax have made an arrest and recovered a gun after receiving a report of a man with a rifle in the downtown core Thursday morning.
A man was arrested at 11:08 a.m. AT, police said, after a second report of a man leaving a gun on a bus.
Officers "recovered a firearm on a metro transit bus nearby," police said.
But police said it was unclear if the man arrested was the same one a witness reported seeing at 8:36 a.m.
In that call, the witness said the man, wearing an ear piece and black cargo pants, was seen carrying a rifle wrapped in a black cloth near the Halifax Citadel, a national historic site.
City Hall, the courthouse and schools were locked down as police began searching for the suspect.
Police said the investigation continues.
