Royals seeking consistency
It's been an up-and-down year for the Westpark Royals varsity girls' volleyball team.
The Royals (1-3) have seen some highs — including a victory over the defending 'A' provincial champions St. Claude Olympiens. The Royals also notched a second-place showing at the Elm Creek tournament earlier this season.
However, finding consistency has been a challenge, as the team searched for it during a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18 and 25-19) loss to the visiting Elm Creek Cobras on Tuesday.
Head coach Brian Ferguson said he hopes to see less variation in the way the team plays as players begin to gel.
"It's a little frustrating because of consistency," said Ferguson. "We beat St. Claude last week and they were provincial champions last year. We beat them, and then we couldn't put the ball over the net."
Ferguson liked what he saw in the upset victory over the Olympiens.
"They played as a team. They moved. They got the ball. They hit. They set," said Ferguson.
Ferguson hopes that effort replicates itself later in the season heading into the playoff round.
"I'm hoping to peak at the right time," said Ferguson. "We're saving it."
The Royals' boys matched up with their Cobra counterparts earlier in the evening, falling 3-1 (25-10, 25-19, 14-25 and 25-19).
Both teams will resume league play in Rosenort on Thursday.
