The Plap City Rollers are continuing their fundraising drive with a Halloween bud, spud, and steak fundraiser, to help them prepare for competition next year.

“People should come out to the fundraiser, because it will be a great chance to meet the girls in a calmer situation then some of our other fundraisers. Also it’s a great meal and a great time to come hang out and have a drink and some dinner before you go out for your Halloween Saturday,” said Tina Jansen aka Girlmeat, coach of the Plap City Rollers.

Halloween costumes are strongly encouraged.

Funds raised from the event will go to help the girls prepare for the 2013 bouting season.

“Right now the money we are fundraising goes to a few different things, buying our uniforms for the 2013 season as well as purchasing all the items we need to host a bout in portage. There is a lot of stuff to purchase and our time is become more and more limited with each passing month to get everything we need,” said Jansen. “Also this fundraiser will be a great time for any of our girls to answer any questions people have, weather it be joining as a skater, ref, or volunteer which we will be needing lots of for our upcoming 2013 season.”

The team already has about five games booked for next season and are hoping to still arrange a couple of more.

“We are looking at around eight to ten bouts next season, half of which will be hosted in Portage la Prairie,” said Jansen. “We are all working very hard to get our skills up to par so we can proudly represent Portage la Prairie on the flat track.”

The event will be taking place at Tavern United in Portage la Prairie on Oct. 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $20 and will be available from any derby girl and at locations to be announced.
