Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen celebrated National Family Week by honouring grandparents in Portage la Prairie on Monday.
"Grandparents often have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of individuals and families as a whole," said MP Bergen in a statement. “The legacies that grandparents leave behind provide a foundation for the future of all Canadian families. That is why I feel it is more important than ever to honour grandparents today and to remember their lasting contribution."
This year's theme is the Grandparent Connection, which is put on by the Canadian Association of Family Resource Programs and correlates with the Government of Canada's National Seniors Day.
Bergen was in Ottawa due to parliamentary sessions but representatives of her office took part in festivities throughout the day.
"These events provide an opportunity for us all to that a moment to focus on grandparents and their contribution to families and societies in Portage-Lisgar and nation-wide," Bergen said.
