A Portage potato truck driver was taken to hospital after his truck collided with a train heading westbound on Drive Inn Road in Portage la Prairie.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. after the truck was heading north to drop off some potatoes from his place of employment, Kroeker Farms.
A witness on the scene confirmed the identity of the man as Richard Wiebe, 41, and even helped him out of the truck before the police came.
"I was heading back (to Portage) and he was heading north to drop off some potatoes. I came up here and then I saw him," he said.
The crash also caused the truck to leak diesel from the engine and firefighters were forced to deal with that situation before they could clear the scene.
The man was taken to the local hospital where staff will evaluate his injuries.
