As the summer comes to a close so does the roadwork in the city of Portage la Prairie. The million dollar paving project the City prescribed back in May is virtually complete.

“All of the paving program is finished. The only thing left to do is the boulevard seeding but all the actual road work is done,” said Ian Milne, manager of engineering for the City.

Traffic was tied up beginning in mid-June when paving began until earlier this month when many of the projects were completed.

Works encompassed much of the city including: the Heritage Square West parking lot, 2nd St. NE between Prince Ave. and Lorne Ave., 13th St. NW between Gigot Ave. and Lorne Ave., 19th St. SW, 18th St. SW, 7th Ave. between 9th St. NW and 10th St. NW, Meighen Ave. from the west leg of Astbury Bay to Roe St., and 8th St. NW between 5th Ave. and 6th Ave.

Portagers may note that 5th SE from Queen Ave. to Dufferin Ave. E is still tied up but that is due to water and sewer work that was to be completed at the same time as paving.

“That’s sewer and water work that is being done there. That’s probably going to be another three weeks,” said Milne.

Other than that the paving project has gone over very well this year with no real problems.

“Yeah it did (go very smoothly),” said Milne.
