Habitat for Humanity Portage Chapter is planning the grand opening celebration and dedication ceremony of the new Habitat home that was built in Portage la Prairie this summer.
The opening event will take place on Sat., Sept. 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizing committee chairman Larry Muirhead is excited to see everything has come together for the community build project. He is asking for everyone involved in the project to come out to the dedication event.
"We invite all the people who have donated to (the project)," he said. "We invite all of the people who have worked at it."
During the dedication ceremony, there will also be a barbecue and tour of the Habitat home available.
Muirhead hopes to see the local mayor, reeve, MLA and MP attend the opening event to show their support for the project.
"We will do a key presentation to the family," added Muirhead. "The family will take possession of the house too on the 8th (of September)."
The Habitat family selected for the home is a mother and her four children.
There is a little bit of finishing work to complete on the Habitat home before everything is done, but Muirhead said the home will be ready for the grand opening event.
"Hopefully, we will be all wrapped up by (the end of the week)," he said. "If we are not, we will continue to work after the family moves in."
About 100 volunteers took part in the latest Habitat build over the summer.
“It’s great that people can contribute,” said Muirhead. “Everybody has done something, (including) having food donations for the volunteers, which is an important part. We had volunteers putting up the frame and helping with the basement. We had a lot of professional help also. I was really pleased. Everybody really came through.”
