After successful productions of Don Cherry's Keep Your Head Up and Goon, starring Sean William Scott, the Mr. Hockey, The Gordie Howe story is the latest movie to be shot at the PCU Centre.

Extra Castings will be handling the production in the middle of September, which is a boon to the local arena because it helps them attain some much-needed funds.

"It's nice because the ice will be used during a period of time when the ice will not really be in use so it will help to bring in some extra revenue which is always greatly appreciated," said David Sattler, assistant manager at the Portage Regional Recreation Authority.

The PCU Centre has been able to house these popular productions, largely in part to their flexibility and willingness to accommodate production crews.

"It's nice because what we're told is that we're quite flexible. A lot of movie crews need to be able to do things (freely) while they're here and some other rinks won't allow it," said Sattler.

"Raising the netting behind the glass (is one of those reasons). Some other arenas thought that it was too much for a hassle to bring them up and down whereas we are quite flexible with that."

Shooting will be occurring after-hours so it's not expected to interfere with any of the daily operations or programs in session. For the PRRA, the PCU Centre just continues to prove its worth.

"It speaks to the facility that we have. it's more than just a hockey rink and can be used for different venues," said Sattler.

According to Extra Castings website, they are looking for extras so if that suits you, log onto their website, download the PDF form and send a photo with your application.

The production company will pay people $11.50 an hour and are looking mostly for men with facial hair, chops, side burns, handle bars and mustaches.

Women are asked to have medium to long length hair with solid coloured hair; no previous acting experience is required.
