Red River College (RRC) is preparing for a busy second year at their Portage la Prairie Campus.

With registration on going for fall and winter classes, Lori Grenkow, manager of the RRC Portage Campus, said that numbers are similar to those of last year.

“It’s hard to tell what our final registration numbers will be, because we are waiting on payments from students,” said Grenkow. “However, we are seeing lots of numbers and it looks fairly steady this year. We’re hoping to see similar numbers.”

Registration will run until the start of the programs said Grenkow.

Most of the incoming students will be taking first year courses, as there are very few second year courses available at RRC.

“One of our courses that offers a second year in Portage is the Child and Youth Program,” said Grenkow. “Last year, we had six people finish the course and we are expecting to see five return for the second year.”

One of the most popular courses this fall is the Health Care Aide program.

“It’s a funded program and popular for a number of different reasons,” said Grenkow. “There are lots of health care jobs and the RHA is in need of aides, plus it is a quick program that only runs for one semester.”
