Shawn Sophasath has now competed on the national stage.
The local tennis player was 1-2 in the under-12 division at the Rogers Junior National Championships in Mont-Tremblant, Que. earlier this month.
Sophasath dropped all three of his preliminary matches to finish fourth in his pool, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Quebec's Nicaise Muamba, 6-0, 6-0 to B.C.'s Andy Sun and 6-1, 6-1 to Quebec's Juan Manuel Lopez.
Assigned to the fourth flight, Sophasath opened with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to the Atlantic region's Collin Connors, but on the consolation side, pulled out a 7-5, 7-5 win over Atlantic's Julian Oxner. He then wrapped the tournament with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Atlantic's August McIntyre.
