Portage Emergency Services were called to a house fire at about 1:30 am early Wednesday morning.

The blaze was located at Victoria Avenue near Third Street N.E.

When firefighters arrived they were able to put out the fire, which was located in the kitchen area in the home, in roughly 25 minutes.

"There was severe damage done to the kitchen area at the front east side of the house," said Captain Dave Sproat, with Portage Emergency Services.

He said the initial crew that went into the house "did a really great job at attacking the fire, and getting it under control."

However, there was smoke damage throughout the house as a result of the blaze.

The estimated cost of damages to the house is deemed to be roughly $100,000, confirmed the fire department.

Three fire trucks and 22 firefighters attended the scene, along with the RCMP and Regional Health Ambulance Services.

Crews determined there was no one in the house at the time of the fire and the building was under renovations.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time and the Office of the Fire Commissioner is investigating.
