Council approve important projects 0

The City of Portage la Prairie accomplished a lot during its only meeting in August, Monday, including steps forward on a number of important projects.

<b>Firefighters agreement complete</b>

Negotiations are now complete between the City of Portage la Prairie and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1079.

The two sides have agreed on a three year contract which runs from Jan. 1, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2014.

Highlights include: the removal of the “Minimum Staffing” requirement; the increase of payment of the vision premium to 100% paid by the City; as well the new contract saw a salary increases of 3% in Pay Period #1 of each year of 2012, 2013, and 2014 - plus a 2% salary increase in pay period #26 of each year of 2012, 2013, and 2014. The cost translates to a 3% wage increase in 2012 and a 5% increase in 2013 and 2014.

The two sides have been working to hammer out an agreement for some time now. Both sides are now pleased with the outcome.
