The Prairie Fire volleyball camp is back for a fourth year.
Once again, the camp, which is running from Aug. 27-31, will be having some special guests. The camp will take place at both Portage Collegiate Institute gymnasiums.
Like last year, local product Zack Diboll will be returning to help coach the entire week. Diboll, who played with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen last season, was named to Volleyball Canada's men's B team earlier this summer. As well, members of the Brandon Bobcats CIS program will come out to lead instruction for one day, taking the reins on Aug. 30.
"It offers a fresh perspective on things, and sometimes it's good for the athletes to hear it coming from somebody who's currently at the CIS level to reinforce things," said camp organizer Rob Gamache.
Gamache, who also helms the Portage Collegiate Institute Saints' varsity girls' team, said even with approximately 130 players already signed up for the camp, there is still space for others to sign up.
The camp is open to players entering Grade 4 through players entering Grade 12. The Grade 4-6 group will train from noon to 2 p.m., the Grade 7 and 8 players will train from 2 to 5 p.m., and the Grade 9 through 12 players will go from 5 to 8 p.m.
With school tryouts starting the week after the camp, Gamache noted that the week of volleyball goes a long way to getting players prepped for the season ahead.
