Pitbulls to start season Sunday 0

The Portage Pitbulls football program is prepared for another year on the gridiron.
Approximately 90 young players have been honing their skills for the past several weeks in preparation for Sunday's season openers.
Three of the four clubs will open against the Eastside Eagles, with the bantam, peewee and terminator age groups all heading to east Winnipeg. The atoms, meanwhile, will head south to face the Greendell Falcons.
The teams will hold their home openers on Aug. 19. The bantams will play the St. James Rods at 9 a.m., the peewees will face the Charleswood Broncos at 11:30 a.m., the atoms will also face the Broncos at 2 p.m., while the terminators will wrap the day against the Crescentwood Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m.
Three of the teams travelled to La Salle on Wednesday night to get some scrimmage game action in before Sunday's first games for the standings.
Club president Christine Aymont has been happy with how the preseason has gone.
"Things have been going good. The kids have been coming out for practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays since about mid-July," said Aymont. "Now, everybody seems to be back from holidays, so we've got lots of kids coming out."
Aymont said those interested in playing still have an opportunity to sign up, but should act soon.
The club will also host a booth at the Potato Festival this weekend, so those interested can get more information there or by calling registrar Lee Beaton at 239-1672.
