Michael and Sally Stephenson want to show how great of a town Portage la Prairie really is with their new video.
The pair entered the 'My Manitoba Community' video contest by the Credit Union of Manitoba and in more than 10 minutes, they demonstrate why Portage is a great place to be.
"I own a camera and I thought I'd get involved," said Michael. "My wife likes to bike around town so I figured that'd be a good way to do it."
The pair collaborated two months of video from events they had attended over that span. Events such as the PCRC's Sharing Our World, Aboriginal Day, the Portage Golf Club, and even the concerts in Island Park, were featured in the video.
Most range between one to four minutes in length, however, more than 10 minutes of footage was featured in their video. The couple shot more than three hours of video overall.
"We had some friends over looking at the video and they've both lived in Portage la Prairie their whole lives. They said, 'where's all this stuff been happening. How've we been missing it?" said Michael. "There's a lot more events going on it town that you can see."
The Stephensons lived in Winnipeg and then Grand Beach before coming to Portage la Prairie. Both said they appreciate the serenity of Portage and that everything is in walking distance.
"It's small, we can get everywhere on our bike and it seems to be a friendly place. There's a lot of retirees and a lot of things to do. The lake is very beautiful and there's a lot of things that you can do for free," said Michael.
The contest ran from April 18 to July 31 and the winner can take home an iPad. The winner are expected to be announced in September.
