Portagers who wished for a break during the 2011 flood will get one on their taxes.

Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, made the announcement as Canadians will be able to apply for relief if they are having trouble because of extreme weather relief.

"Our government understands that severe weather events can prevent Canadians from meeting their tax obligations," said Shea in a statement.

"(Many have had to rebuild because of events such as flooding and severe wind. The taxpayer relief provisions ensure that all Canadians receive fair tax treatment..."

Taxpayers who have questions about the CRA’s taxpayer relief provisions can access additional information on the CRA website at www.cra.gc.ca/taxpayerrelief or call 1-800-959-8281.
