Rick Hubbs, District Governor of Rotary International District 5550, took the time to speak to the Portage Rotary Club about his vision for the district over his term.
“As a governor of a district we have 48 clubs and it stretches from northwestern Ontario to the eastern half of Saskatchewan. Part of our job is to visit each one of those clubs, like we did here today,” said Hubbs. “All we want to do is instill confidence in the club and of course help them with any problems they might have.”
Hubbs and his wife Fran met with the Portage Rotary Club executive prior to the regular meeting at Canad Inns and plan to go golfing with some of the members this week.
Hubbs added it is important for him to interact with each of the clubs in his district to not only ensure their home community is looked after but that they can also tend to some of Rotary’s international projects.
“We want to instill confidence to get them to help their communities and make sure the community is looked after, then they can go after projects in the world – like drilling wells, or polio – and trying to make things better that way,” said Hubbs. “Rotary International is big and has many projects, but we expect the communities to be looked after first. That’s the most important thing.”
