The Portage Daycare is still in the process of raising funds to renovate their future location on Duke Ave.
The daycare currently operates infant and school aged programs out of a building on 2nd St. SW, until they can afford to renovate the old Knights of Columbus building, which they bought back in Aug. 2008.
This time last year they had architectural drawing in the works and projected they still had $100,000 dollars left to raise. To date not much has changed.
“We’re still in the same boat, still looking for funding so we’re doing fundraisers on a monthly basis,” said Lisa Voth, director of the Portage Daycare.
Fundraisers right now are mostly things handed out to the parents of daycare children.
“We did cookbooks, we did a food one like a mom’s kitchen, those kind of things that we’re handing out,” said Voth. “We’ve got some bigger ones maybe happening in the fall but we haven’t gotten those nailed down yet. We’re still waiting to get some of those.”
Portage Daycare will also be at the Portage Potato Festival in August where they will be running the children’s craft table and likely accepting donations, which are still very much needed.
“With the inflation, every year it gets more expensive. Hopefully we can just keep plugging away at it,” said Voth.
