Three Portage Padres joined the Santa Clara All-Stars at the Senior "AA" All Stars provincial tournament in Stonewall over the weekend.

Landon Thomson, Daylan Laramee and Derek Dubois all represented Portage, while Kyle Hamilton was also named to the team, but couldn't attend because of work commitments.

Though the Santa Clara team lost all three games, in part because of a short bench, Thomson said he enjoyed the experience.

"It was really good ball," said Thomson. "We had kind of a short team, though.

"We only had 11 guys all weekend, so we didn't win any games. We had 19 on our roster to start, but only 11 showed up."

Thomson, who played shortstop and third base, also noted the team had only two pitchers, which hampered the team.

"It's hard to win games when you've got a short staff," said Thomson.

In other Baseball Manitoba news, the results for the peewee 'A' provincial tournament in Boissevain were posted.

The team was 2-1 in the preliminary round sandwiching wins over Pembina Hills North (11-9) and Robin (10-4) around an 11-10 defeat at the hands of Melita.

The club then fell 13-7 to Stonewall in the qualifier.
