Seniors Slo-Pitch tournament beginning Wednesday 0

By Dan Falloon, Portage Daily Graphic

The Portage Seniors Slo-Pitch Tournament is set to take over Republic of Manitobah Park Wednesday and Thursday.

"We're ready to go. We have 18 teams in again this year, which is excellent," said organizer Steve Bergson. "We have teams from Dauphin to Steinbach, Lee River to Killarney, and a majority of the league teams out of Winnipeg.

"We always generate the most interest out of any of these senior slopitch tournaments, for sure."

Two Portage teams , the Polar Kings and Portage Agri-Sales, will be taking part in this year's tournament after only Agri-Sales was in the 2011 edition.

"We have the Polar Kings back in, which is some of the players that will be competing in a tournament in Detroit Lakes in August," said Bergson. "We're splitting up some of the Agri-Sales players and the players that are going to Detroit Lakes."

The Polar Kings play Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Thursday at 11:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Meanwhile, Agri-Sales will play at 11:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday. All Portage games take place on Diamond 1.
