Portage la Prairie's branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is reporting its lounge area will be open again for business as of Friday, July 13 at noon.

The games room in the downstairs section however will be closed until sometime next week.

The downstairs area first closed Monday so that a corroded sewer pipe could be repaired.

"By tomorrow (Friday), we'll have it all cleaned up and people can come in for the usual Friday nights," said local Legion President Jo-Ann Barnes.

Barnes said the replacement pipe has now been put in, but there is still a need to fill in the hole in the floor where the pipe was located and lay the new cement again.

"We are hoping they (workers) are going to lay the carpeting on Monday," she added. "We are going to be open on Saturday for our regular draw."

"It is progressing quite well," Barnes added of the work. "We are happy with what is going on. It's good."

She said she was glad the problem with the pipe was identified early along and there was no actual sewage leaking other than grey water seeping into the ground.

"We are pretty ecstatic that the repair is in and done," said Barnes. "We're moving forward, so that's a good thing."
