"The Ex is always an exciting event here in Portage," he said. "We have a lot of horse related events happening this year."

There will be shows going on everyday during the Ex, which gives Portagers a chance to see the beautiful horses whenever they can make it out.

"We'll have shows every afternoon and evening," said Brown. "It'll be hard for people to miss one if they come out."

Brown said he expects to see anywhere from 75-100 horses at the Portage Ex this year - all of different sizes and breeds.

"We will have a lot of horses here this year," he said. "We'll have different breeds of heavy and miniatures horses. There are horse events for every member of the family."

Brown said all 4-H members could take part in the competition free of charge.

"Any 4-H member in the province is welcome to be apart of this event."

An exciting event that is set to take place Sunday afternoon is the Ranch Rodeo.

"A variety of teams made up of four members complete obstacles with the horses," said Brown. "It is a time trial event. The team with the lowest time wins."

There will a special event held for children six and under called the "Hobby Horse," which has a free entry fee.

Essentially, "Hobby Horse" is a stick horse that can be of any breed or design.

The rider will be asked to walk, trot and gallop both ways in the ring, stop, back up and spin their "Hobby Horse."

There will be cash prizes awarded to the top five finishers in the event, with first place receiving $20.
