Portage FC came close to a gold medal at the U11 Slurpee Cup in Winnipeg over the weekend.

The club went 1-1-1 in the round-robin, but allowed only one penalty shot goal in the three games.

Portage blanked Oxford Heights 3-0 in the opener before falling 1-0 to Bronx Park and playing to a scoreless draw with Melrose.

The team played Valley Gardens in the semis, falling 2-0 to the eventual tournament champions.
