Keeler qualifies for men's amateur

Kenny Keeler is off to the NOTT Autocorp Men's Amateur Championship.

Keeler shot a six-over 77 to finish tied for 10th at Sunday's qualifier in Winkler.

In all, 28 players led by St. Charles' Steven made it out of the qualifier to play at the championship, slated for July 23-26 at Glendale Golf and Country Club.

Keeler wasn't overly enthused about his showing, but since it was a qualifier, he just needed to play well enough to make the cut.

"(I played) okay yesterday," said Keeler. "I wouldn't say I was great.

"I knew just shooting a decent number was good enough. You don't have to go out there and shoot under par."

Keeler said some areas of his game were strong, while others could use some tuning up.

"I putted pretty well," said Keeler. "My short game, in general, was good yesterday.

"I didn't drive the ball very well. I was just kind of steering it around, mostly."

Keeler said he got off to a good start, playing well on the first hole and carrying that momentum through the first five, which he called the toughest at Winkler's course.

"I let a few slip after that," said Keeler.
