City approves grant to light Ukrainian Church 0
The City approved a grant at Monday's meting to go towards replacing the lights on the Ukrainian Church located at the Fort la Reine Museum.
Ukrainian Connection Inc. recently submitted a request to the City to replace light for the Church, which the organization installed back in 2004, at a cost of $3,263.26.
Since then the lights have loosened from the roof and need to be replaced. At the time the problem came to their attention Fort la Reine Museum told Ukrainian Connection that there was no funds available to make the repairs.
Ukrainian Connection has since approached the City, the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie, the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) and the Community Foundation of Portage and District (CFPD) to each chip in 20 per cent of the estimated cost for the joint venture. Ukrainian Connection is also prepared to chip in 20 per cent of the total. They have not approached the Museum as they know it is funded by the City and the RM.
Two quotes have been collected so far to remove the old lighting, and install new clips and lights: Point West Electrical Services for $5,800 and V&R Electrical for $6,536.82.
The City approved the request and will chip in $1,300 towards the project.
