Spring legislative session ends positively

Some highlights from the spring provincial legislation session last week were rural apprenticeship opportunities, a focus on health care, and providing more help for victims of the 2011 flood.

Portage la Prairie MLA, Ian Wishart, says he is happy that the province has brought these issues to the forefront of discussion, as they affect his constituents.

The province introduced the new Rural and Northern Apprenticeship Training Strategy that will make it easier for rural Manitobans to become apprentices.

"It is nice to see more training in rural and northern areas," said Wishart. "One issue for rural citizens is that they have to leave their community to complete their apprenticeships. We certainly hope this strategy can change that. We support it."
